New Life for a Historic Victorian

7/25/2017

This unique Victorian home located in one of Indianapolis’s most historic neighborhoods of Woodruff Place, was originally built in 1890. With 127 years of history taking its toll on the home the new home owner’s knew something had to be done to accommodate their growing family and to address the antiquated space.

Goal/Problem:
From the outset our clients had very clear goals in mind about what they wanted out of their new space. When were approached to remodel the back half of their home we were given an awesome  set of construction plans designed by Jillian Richey Designs (http://www.jillianricheydesign.com/) a design firm based out of Chicago, IL. We then added our own structural plans to the design set and then we are all set to get permits and begin.

Our clients wanted more functional use out of the existing space, upgrade their kitchen featuring some of the latest modern day amenities all while preserving some of the existing historic elements. (The original base trim, window and door casing)

Solution:
To accommodate the growing family and functional needs the design entailed taking down a major wall that separated the kitchen from the then laundry area and then also creating new door openings and then closing off a door opening. This allowed us to completely open up the space and totally transform the room. The newly remodeled space is ultra-versatile. During the week its a place to cook, eat dinner, do laundry and a homework station; and by weekend it is large gorgeous space to entertain family and friends.
